  Introduction



Universal Science College (USC) is privileged to start 4 year B. Sc.(Bachelor of Science) in Biochemistry for the first time in Nepal from August 2002 in affiliation with Pokhara University. Hospitals, Clinics, Research laboratories, Agro-food industries, Pharmaceutical companies and many other fields are urgently in need of persons who have passed B. Sc. in Biochemistry. The first batch of student have already completed their B. Sc. Biochemistry program; about 20% have found employment and rest are looking for oppurtunities to study abroad. In this program, their is a provision for doing research in the 8th semester. In this connection, two students in 2006 have already done their research in Protein Network Research Center, Yonsei university, Korea and this year six students are going there.

The program has been designed to develop the technical/ professional graduates by promoting and strengthening their knowledge which can help them in getting a postgraduate degree in Biochemistry or Chemistry. The program will offer the students enhanced educational opportunities in a wide range of Biochemistry necessary for the continued development of the nation. Universal Science College has thus made its first endeavor to explore this new challenging field and expects cooperation and support from all, especially, the Scientific World of Nepal.
