Academic Rules, 2005
Normal and maximum duration of stay at the college: The normal and maximum duration for the completion of the requirements for the program are 4years and 6years respectively (Vide article 4 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Course Registration: The academic records of student are maintained in terms of the course he/she has registered in a semester, and the grades he/she obtains in these courses. Registration for courses is done at the beginning of each semester. Since registration is a very important procedural part of the credit system, it is essential that all students present themselves for registration at the college. In case of illness or any emergency circumstances, he/she must inform the principal or head of the institution. Only in rare cases, the Principal/Director may allow registration in the candidate's absence. The student's nominee cannot register for the courses but may complete other formalities. (Vide article 5 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Addition and withdrawal from courses: Students wishing to add or withdraw a course(s) must do by petition to the Principal's/ Director's office in the first week of the semester. Withdrawal can be done by applying on the prescribed form within one month of the start of the semester. A full time student must take a minimum of 12 credits. (Vide article 6 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Semester withdrawal: A student may apply for withdrawal from the entire semester on medical grounds only. The director will examine the application for semester withdrawal and take the appropriate decision. No partial withdrawal of the courses of the registered in a semester will be considered. (Vide article 7 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Attendance requirement: A student must attend every lecture, tutorial, seminar and practical class. However, to accommodate for registration, sickness and other contingencies, the total attendance has to be at least 80% of the total classes actually held. If the student is continuously absent from the college for more than four weeks without notifying the head of the institution, his/her name will be removed from the college rolls. (Vide article 8 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Pass marks in the internal and external examinations: The pass marks for internal examinations is 45%. Students failing in the internal examinations will be “Not- Qualified” to appear in the end of the semester examinations. Pass marks for end of the semester examinations is also 45%. (Vide article 12.4 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Dismissal from the program: A student is normally expected to obtain a CGPA of 2.0. A student, whose performance in the past semesters does not show the possibility of maintaining this CGPA, may be dismissed from the program. (Vide article 15 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
I-grade: If a student fails to pass internal and/or external examination, he/she may be awarded an Incomplete (I)-grade. If he/she doesn't pass the internal and/or external examination in the following semester, his/her I grade will be automatically converted into F-grade. (Vide article 11 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
F-grade: (a) A student failing in internal or external examination will be given an F-grade. (Vide article 11 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University). (b) If the instructor/invigilator detects a student using unfair means, the student may be given an “F” grade at the discretion of the Examination Board. (Vide article 17 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Repeating failed course: A student may be allowed to retake up to 7 credits equivalent to two failed courses (when offered by the college ) in addition to his/her regular course work. (Vide article 6 and 9 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Repeating passed course: A student may be allowed to take up to two passed courses in order to achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.0. (Vide article 6 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University).
Unfair means: Students are strictly forbidden from adopting unfair means in class assignments, tests, report-writing and final examinations. Any of the following would be considered as Adoption for Unfair Means during examination: (a) Receiving unauthorized help from fellow students, (b) Copying from another student's script/report/paper (c) Copying from desk, or palm of hand or other incriminating documents (d) Possession of any incriminating document whether used or not (e) Any approach in direct or indirect form to influence the teacher/examiner concerning grade (f) Unruly behavior which disrupts the academic program. If the instructor/invigilator detects a student using unfair means, the student may be given an “F” grade at the discretion of the Examination Board. Moreover, adoption of unfair means may result in the dismissal of the student from the program and expulsion of the student from the college and as such from the Pokhara University . (Vide article 4 of Semester System Regulation, 12th meeting of Academic Council of Pokhara University). Absence in the exams: If a student fails to attend an internal examination Conducted by USC, he/she will be fined 100/- for each absence. Absence in class: If a student fails to attend a class, he/she will be fined 10/- for each period. Breakage of laboratory equipment and glassware / labware: If a student breaks / ruins / damages any equipment or a glassware / lab ware, rest of the students will have to identify him/her within 24 hrs. If the student is identified, the cost of repair / purchase of the equipment and glassware / lab ware will be paid by the student. In case such a student cannot be identified, the cost of repair / purchase of the equipment and glassware / lab ware will be collectively paid by students. If a student insults his/her teacher in the class or outside class, he/she can be expelled from the program. I have read carefully the rules outlined above and will abide by them. ………………….........
